Kubuntu
January 7th, 2007Okay, I’ve had it.
This is the second time I’m installing Kubuntu on my system. As soon as I update via Adept and restart, I find I can’t log in. It authenticates me successfully but brings me back to the login screen.
What’s worse, it eliminated the bootloader on my first [Windows XP] hard disk and installed GRUB. Now I’m going to have to repair Windows so I don’t have to be on my toes to while logging in select XP before I can do any work.

dude, whats wrong with GRUB? keep it as your bootloader, you can configure it to start a default OS after a set period of time, if you dont select an OS. it rocks man! but LILO rocks harder.

Hey, c0dec, I don’t have a problem with GRUB. As soon as I update Kubuntu, on my next restart it simply refuses to log me on and I’m one of those who love leaving their systems to boot while doing something else. What’s the point booting to an inoperable OS?
I don’t even know how to configure it to boot automatically to Windows

well i haven’t used kubuntu but there should be some kind of configuration manager like win’s control panel. in there you should be able to configure GRUB. you just need to know what partition windows is in. if in doubt, google :). this is how linux gurus are born - when something is broken, fix it.
once you have your fun with kubuntu, switch to slackware. enjoy

I’m done experimenting with Kubuntu. Final verdict — it sucks! I’ll play with Mandriva for a while then switch to Debian or Slackware.

lol…kubuntu can’t be that bad. well my first distro was mandrake 7.0 (now mandriva these days). you shouldn’t have problems getting into it.
